Everything you want to know about Laven, the coffee, and how it gets from the Bolaven Plateau to your door.

The Coffee
Where exactly does the coffee come from? +
Every bag of Laven coffee comes from the Bolaven Plateau in Champasak Province, southern Laos. We work directly with smallholder farming families and the CPC cooperative (Coffee Promotion Company) — a farmer-owned organisation representing over 1,800 families across 55 villages. We visit the farms, cup the lots, and select what goes in the bag. There are no anonymous middlemen.
What's the difference between washed and natural process? +
Processing method is one of the biggest factors in how your coffee tastes. Washed process means the fruit is removed before drying — producing a cleaner, brighter cup with more acidity. Our washed lot has citrus notes and a clean finish. Natural process means the whole cherry is dried with the fruit intact — producing a fuller, sweeter, fruitier cup with dark berry and brown sugar notes. Neither is better — they're just different expressions of the same origin.
When is the coffee roasted? +
Every bag is roasted within 48 hours of your order being placed. Coffee is at its best between 5 and 21 days after roasting — so by the time it arrives with you, it's in its peak window. You'll see the roast date printed on every bag.
Is the coffee organic or fair trade certified? +
Our coffee is grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers — the volcanic soil is naturally fertile and most farmers use traditional methods. We don't currently hold formal organic certification, which requires significant cost and infrastructure. On fair trade: we pay above market rate directly to farmers, which in practice exceeds what fair trade certification guarantees. We'll be transparent about exact farm gate prices on our website as we grow.
Orders & Shipping
How long does delivery take? +
Australian orders: typically 7–14 days after roasting. UK orders: 3–5 working days. We roast within 48 hours of your order and ship immediately after. You'll receive a tracking number as soon as your bag is dispatched.
Do you ship internationally? +
We currently ship to Australia and the UK. If you'd like us to ship to your country, email us at hello@laven.coffee and we'll do our best to make it work.
What's your returns policy? +
Because coffee is a perishable product, we can't accept returns on opened bags. However if your order arrives damaged or there's a problem with the product, we'll replace it or refund you immediately — no questions asked. Email hello@laven.coffee with a photo and we'll sort it same day.
Is your coffee compliant with Australian customs and food safety rules? +
Yes. Roasted coffee beans are a low-risk, shelf-stable food product and are routinely imported into Australia without special permits for personal consumption. Our beans are roasted, packed, and sealed before shipping, and all customs paperwork is completed correctly on our end — there's nothing extra you need to do on arrival.
Subscription
Can I really cancel anytime? +
Yes. No minimum term, no cancellation fee, no awkward phone calls. You manage your subscription entirely through your account — skip a delivery, pause for a month, or cancel with one click. We mean it.
What does 15% off actually mean? +
Our 250g bag is A$26.00 as a one-time purchase. On subscription, you pay A$22.10 per bag — saving A$3.90 per bag, applied automatically every delivery.
Founding Members
What exactly is a founding member? +
Our first 100 customers. We're limiting founding membership because we want to know who you are and make the early experience personal. Founding members get 20% off their first three orders, free shipping for life, early access to new lots, weekly dispatches from Pakse, and their name on our first batch of packaging.
How many founding member spots are left? +
We started with 100 spots. 23 have been claimed so far. When it hits 100, founding membership closes permanently.
